WHY Rook Cycles?

Rook Cycles is South Africa's own Fixie co. We design frames and forks and couple them with sourced name brand components to build well priced, high-quality single speed bicycles. We're pushing fixed gear riding and the subculture it breeds in the South African market.

WHAT we’re looking for:

A bike mechanic. The finer details: Previous experience as a bike mechanic and keen to learn more. (Although we sell a lot of single speed bikes, we are also looking at experience with geared bikes. Needs to be able to handle sales of parts, bikes and services. Relates to people easily with a focus on excellent customer service. Sales experience would be a pro.

WHO we're looking for:

A people person with a drive to learn and grow as Rook Cycles evolves. Needs to be able to handle a retail environment, interact with customers on a day to day basis and immerse themselves in the brand and lifestyle that is Rook Cycles. We’re a bike shop, so a passion for the two-wheeled machine is key.

HOW the job will look:

As a mechanic, you’ll be in charge of: Getting bicycles ready for customers (or “building bikes” from box to customer) Servicing existing bikes – and troubleshooting with technical issues Assist with sales of parts and bikes – a stand-in for sales. Salary expectation: Starting on a shift basis, including commission based on sales. You'll be part of the team, so a personality that fits is paramount.

WHEN and WHERE?

Your work hours: 20 hours per week. More hours on demand. Four times four: 4 days of 4 hours in the morning from 9:00 – 13:00 and 4 hours flexible in the week – depending on where the need is (probably 1-2 Saturdays per month between 9:00 and 16:00). Standing in when the key shop person is not in the store. Work in-store at 173 Bree Street, Cape Town.
