It all started with a humble dream to bring fixed gear riding and the sub culture it breeds to the streets of South Africa. From our first prototype frame , we knew we were onto something great! Excellent quality, low maintenance and at a price point that let’s even more people in on the fun. Rook Cycles launched to the public in July 2017 and in these few short months, we’ve had an amazing response from our customers many of whom have become our friends.
A highlight from the year includes our Weekly Ride Out, which has become somewhat of a ritual. A pack of single speed riders taking over the streets, mashing through previously unridden territory, keeping up the pace to lose the security guards and leaving skids all over the city! Our Thursday rides will continue next year and we’re looking forward to even more rad routes with the gang (everyone and all bikes welcome). 601 in particular is a next level ride, if you know, you know. If you don’t you’ll have to come ride it :p We’ll be expanding into new cities too!
We launched our showroom and workshop with a pizza party. A wet and and rainy night in Cape Town saw some real troopers braving the weather to boogie down at our workshop. Drifter brewery made sure everyone was well merry and Babeano kept everyone on the dance floor. Thanks to everyone who came out!
Teaming up with Woodstock Moto Co, Rook Cycles popped up in Barron Street for the garage built show 2017. The community’s response was great! Loads of interest into the fixed gear scene. We’re psyched to be doing more collab events next year.
As 2017 draws to a close we’d like to thank each and everyone of you who’s riding a Rook Bicycle, attended a Weekly Ride out or even just liked an Instagram post. We’ll carry on pushing the stoke!
We’ve got some super exciting developments happening next year which we can’t wait to share with you. Watch this space.
